1UZ-FE Swap status
2007, springtime
Finally, a new home provides the much needed space. During winter and early springtime, I've created my own little workshop in the garage. Now all I need is time and money. With a few other projects in the way, realistically it'll be 2008 before I'll actually start this project, but I haven't forgotten. I do intend to bring the TA23 home this summer, out of storage and into my garage, then make it roadworthy so I can at least drive it now and then.
2003, summer
A monkey offered me a 1UZ-FE for my 1JZ-GTE.
If you didn't know, the 1UZ-FE is the Lexus V8, as found in LS400, SC400 etc. An all-alloy 32 valve motor that makes 250hp and 360Nm from the factory.
I took a while to think about that, and decided to take it. Why? Well...
• it's much lighter than a 1JZ-GTE and sits further back in the engine bay (a weight balance thing - making it more likely that this car could corner as well as go in a straight line)
• a 1JZGTE would be much harder to fit, leaving almost no room for the radiator, intercooler, A/T cooler etc.
• it makes only 30 hp less and the same torque - without a turbo! Imagine what it could do with a pair of turbos evil grin
2002 and before
Made evil plans.
Bought the 1JZ-GTE engine, the Hilux rear end and MANY more bits and pieces.
Had to put the car in storage and freeze the project because there's no cash to complete some much needed bodywork, and no space to work on the project. Both problems should be solved in late 2004 or early 2005.
